As adults, we don’t tend to have long Christmas lists as we did when we were kids. But, this year, we may have to add a line item to our wish list: green grass.
This year, turf is undeniably less green. This is due to the unusually warm temperatures, low humidity and the even more lacking rainfall.
Even though we aren’t in the hot summer months and running our irrigation systems on full blast everyday, our precious turf still needs the love.
Here are a couple of pointers for taking advantage of this warm time of year to ensure your lawn will be as healthy as possible:
- Fertilization (if you haven’t already applied any) should be applied when grass is actively growing. Dormancy has not occurred yet due to the heat, so time is of the essence. Fertilization is going to really strengthen and vitalize your lawn, giving it a longer season of life and creating a great environment for new growth.
- Keep your irrigation tuned up and turned on. You can have someone (hopefully US!) come and check your irrigation system quarterly to ensure that all your heads are operable and reaching where they should. Keep your irrigation regularly watering your lawn by setting the timer for every day. You can shorten the amount of time that your system will run on each zone, but make sure that each day you give your turf a sip!
Happy holiday season from everyone at AtRidge!
